Rishikesh is a small town in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India. Located in the foothills of the Himalayas along the convergence of Ganga River, Rishikesh (also called as Hrishikesh) is known for its adventure activities, ancient temples, popular cafes and as the "Yoga Capital of the World". Rishikesh catapulted to Western fame when the Beatles dropped by for a visit to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram where they had practised meditation here for weeks and created some beautiful songs. Ashram (was closed til Dec 2015) has been reopened to the public. It comes under Rajaji Tiger Reserve. With whitewater rafting industry growing and varied camping and cafe spots springing up, Rishikesh has grown immensely as a favourite, catering to people with different needs.

The name ‘Dehradun’ has been derived from two distinct words- ‘Dehra’(from ‘dera’) meaning home and ‘Doon’ meaning a valley between Himalayas and Shivaliks (Dehradun lies in the Doon valley). When Guru Ram Rai visited this place with his followers, he set up a camp here. Around this time, the modern city of Dehradun began developing. Many historians have opined that ‘Dehra’ can be used to refer to camping, thus the name ‘Dehradun’. Several parts of the Garhwal and Kumaon region, including Dehradun, were a part of the United Provinces- later named as the state of Uttar Pradesh. In the year 2000 under Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Act, the state of Uttarakhand (formerly known as Uttaranchal) was carved out of the northwestern districts of Uttar Pradesh and Dehradun was made the interim capital.

Uttarkashi, literally meaning 'Kashi of the North' is also nicknamed as ‘Somya Kashi’ and ‘Shivnagri’, like Kasi, the town of Uttarkashi also houses the sacred Vishwanath temple. This holy shrine features a copper trident, having a circumference of 1 meter. This is a quaint little town tucked away in the hill state of Uttarakhand. Revered by the Hindus as one of their propitious religious sites, the townhouses two of the total four holy shrines of Hindu mythology.

Jageshwar Shiv temple is one of the oldest shiva temple in India. Jageshwar is situated at an elevation of 1,870 mts above sea level and at a distance of 37 kms from Almora. Jageshwar is an important tourist destination of Kumaon and receives thousands of visitors every year. Jageshwar is a Hindu pilgrimage town in Almora District, dedicated to Lord Shiva, northeast of Almora and around 101 Kms away from Nainital in Kumaon Region of Uttarakhand Uttranchal.

Rajaji National Park is situated in the state of Uttarakhand. The park was named after Late Shri C. Rajagopalachari (also known as Rajaji) who was a prominent leader freedom fighter and first governor general of India. Jungle safaris are offered at two locations currently, Chilla and Motichur Ranges. Visitors can enter from one of the seven gates at Ramgarh, Mohand, Ranipur, Motichur, Chilla, Kunao and Laldhang. The picturesque beauty and rich biodiversity of the park serve as its major attractions for both nature lovers as well as wildlife enthusiasts.

Chamoli is a beautiful town nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. It is perched at an elevation of 1300 metres above sea level and is bedecked on the holy banks of river Alaknanda. The city offers a promising view of nature, woods, the rumbling creeks and the alpine hills.
