Bhavishya Badri Temple is a famous ancient temple of Lord Vishnu and is part of the Panch Badri circuit. It is situated 17kms from Joshimath in the village Subhain of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. It is perched at anelevation of 2744m between the dense forests and can only be reached by trekking.There is a beautiful water spring in Bhavishya Badri and the place has many Cedar trees.
Bhavishya Badri as the name suggests is the “future abode of Lord Vishnu”. According to mythology, when sage Shri Adi Shankaracharya took Badri Vishal from Tapt Kund, a celestial announcement was made. According to prophecy, when Kaliyug will befall on mankind, the left hand of idol of Lord Narsingh at Narsingh Temple of Joshimath broke down, the mountains of Nar and Narayan mountains will block the route to Badrinath. When the shrine will become inaccessible, Lord Badri will appear here. After that Lord Vishnu, in his 10th incarnation as Kalki, destroys the world bringing Kaliyug to an end and Satyug will begin again and Badrinath Dham will be re-establish at Bhavishya Badri.
Bhavishya Badri temple was also built by Shri Adi Shankaracharya. Here idol of Lord Vishnu is present in Chaturbhuj Shaligram.It is beyond Tapovan, up the Dhauliganga river and involves a trek of about 3Kms from the motor road. The approach along the Dhauliganga river is stimulating. The name Dhauliganga means (white water) and truly it is a roaring stream which passes through almost perpendicular cliffs on either side, several 100m high and wild in the extreme.
